Climbing Nevado Copa

Copa (6,188m/20,301ft) is a mountain in the Cordillera Blanca within the Huascarán National Park, in the Andes of western Peru. It is located in the Ancash Region, and act as a natural boundary between the provinces of Asunción and Carhuaz.

Day 01: Huaraz – Vicos – Base Camp of Copa (4,400m/14,432ft)

After breakfast in the hotel in Huaraz, you will board our private bus and drive all the way to Vicos, passing by small villages like Monterrey, Jangas, Marcara, and Hot Spring of Chancos. In Vico, the donkey drivers will be waiting for us, to transport the food and climbing equipments. We will start climb up for about 4 to 5 hours. Along the way up to the Base Camp of Copa, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the Black Mountain Range, Copa, Urus and Vallunaraju mountains. Overnight at 4400m/14432ft.

Day 02: Base Camp – Moraine Camp of Copa – Camp 1 (5,200m/17,056ft)

After breakfast, we will start walking over big rocks in the Moraine. After a few hours, we will get the glacier, where we will get equipped with our climbing gears to get to Camp 1. We will clim for about 1 hour reach the camp with splendid views of Callejon de Huaylas and mountain peaks like Huascaran, Hualcan, Vallunaraju, and more. We will have some good rest to prepare ourselves for an early start the next day. Overnight camping at 5200m/17056ft.

Day 03: Camp 1 of Copa– Climb up Copa to the summit (6,188m/20,296ft) – Base Camp

We will have an early breakfast, and leave the camp at 2am to start a 6 to 7-hour climb to the Copa summit (6188m/20296ft). We will enjoy breathtaking views there. Then we will start our way back down (for about 2h) to Camp 1. We will have a 1h-break at the camp, while the porters pick-up the tents and the rest of our equipment. We will continue our way down to Base Camp for about 3 hours. Overnight camping 4400m/14432ft.

Day 04: Base Camp of Copa – Vicos – Huaraz

After breakfast, we will walk back down for 4-5h to Vicos, where our private transport will be waiting for us We will drive back to Huaraz. Estimated arrival time at your hotel: around 3-4pm.
