Climbing Nevado Pisco

The Nevado Pisco (5,752m/18,871ft) is a mountain of the Cordillera Blanca within the Huascarán National Park, part of the Peruvian Andes, province of Yungay, Áncash region.

Day 01: Huaraz – Cebollapampa –Base Camp of Pisco (4,600m/15,091ft)

After breakfast in the hotel, you will board our private bus, and drive along the Callejon de Huaylas, north of Huaraz. Passing by different traditional Andean villages, we will make our first stop at Carhuas (2650m), to enjoy a delicious homemade ice-cream. We will continue our bus trip and stop in the ancient town of Yungay, a city that was burried under snow in 1970, following an avalanche in Huascarán Mountain, the New Yungay (2500m). From there, we will head up to the entrance of the Llanganuco Valley, where we will register in the National Huascaran Park Control. We will then have our lunch break at the beautiful lakes of Llanganuco (Chinancocha and Orconcocha). We will then hike up to the Base Camp of Pisco. If the weather conditions are good, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain peaks of Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Pisco, and Huandoys. We will arrive to the Camp Base Pisco around 3 pm. Overnight at 4600m.

Day 02: Base Camp of Pisco – Moraine Camp of Pisco (4,850m/15,912ft)

After breakfast, we will have the morning free to rest and check our climbing gear. We will have lunch at 12pm and then start our 2h30 hike via a rocky path to the Moraine Camp of Pisco. We will have some hot tea and dinner. Overnight camping at 4850m.

Day 03: Moraine Camp – Climb up Pisco (5,752m/18,866ft) – Base Camp

We will have an early breakfast, and start our ascent around 3am. It will take us about 1h to get the glacier We will equip ourselves with our climbing gear and start our climb up to the Pisco Summit. After about 1h we’ll get to a challenging 40m section at 50°. After this we will have an extra 2h30 climb to reach the summit. There we will enjoy breathtaking views of different mountains such as: Artesonraju, Alpamayo, Caraz, Huascaran, Chopicalqui, Yanapaccha, Chacraraju, Brogui, Huandoys, and more, as well as the famous lake 69. We will then start our way down to the Moraine Camp, where the donkey drivers will be waiting for us. We will then go down to the base Camp, and arrive around 3pm. Overnight in the Base Camp at 4850m.

Day 04: Base Camp – Llanganuco – Huaraz

After breakfast, we walk back down for about 2h to Cebollapampa, where our private transport will be waiting for us. We will pass one more time by the Orconcocha and Chinancocha lakes; have lunch on the way, and pass again the Huascaran National Park control. We will continue to go down to Yungay district, and should arrive in Huaraz around 4pm.
