Huayhuash Trek & Climbing Diablo Mudo 5325m
An incredible 10-day expedition, passing by some of the most beautiful places in the Cordillera Blanca: the Cacanan pass (4,700m/15,416ft), Carhuac pass (4,500m/14,760ft), Siula pass (4850m/15,908ft), Portachuelo pass (4700m/15,416ft), Punta Cuyoc pass (4900m/16,072ft), San Antonio Pass (5000m/16,400ft), Tapush pass (4800m/15,748), finishing with the climb of the diablo Mudo (5,325m/17,466ft).

Day 1: Huaraz – Chiquian – Cuartelhuain (4,100m/13,448ft)
After breakfast in the hotel, you will board our private transport at 7am. We will drive for 2h south of Huaraz, passing by different districts: Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha (4100m/13448ft), then east to Chiquian (3400m/11152ft), where we will have a break. We will then travel down for 1h, and then up for an extra 1h30 to reach Cuartelhuain. Along the way, we will enjoy great views over the mountains of Ninashanca, Jirishanca, and Yerupaja (among others). Overnight camping at 4,100m.
Day 2: Trek Cuartelhuain – Cacanan Pass (4,700m/15,416ft) – Mitucocha (4,200m/13,776ft)
After breakfast, we will start hiking at 8am from Cuartelhuain to the Cacanan pass (4,700m). We will climb and enjoy nice views of the mountains around, like Chaupijanca and Cunchush. We will then hike down for about 2h30 to the campsite of Mitucocha, from which we will be able to see the mountains of Ninashanca, Jirishanca and Rondoy. Overnight camping at 4,200m.
Day 3: Mitucocha – Carhuac Pass (4,500m/14,760ft) – Trek Carhuacocha
After breakfast, at 8am, we will start hiking south-east. After about 2-3 hours, we will reach Carhuac pass (4,500m), where we will enjoy a great view over the Jirishanca mount. We will then hike down for about 1h30 and arrive at Carhuacocha lake, Jirishanca, Yerupaja and Siula on the west site. Overnight camping at 4,250m.
Day 4: Carhuacocha – Siula Pass (4,850m/15,908ft) – Huayhuash (4,300m/14,104ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will start a hike down. After about 30 minutes, we will walk near the lake of Carhuacocha, then we will start a 4h ascent to the Siula pass (4850m). From there we will enjoy great views over the mountains of: Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Siula and Carnicero. After this we will hike down to Huayhuash for about 2h30. From the camp, we will be albe to see Trapecio mount in the west side. Overnight camping at 4300m.
Day 5: Trek Huayhuash – Portachuelo Pass (4,700m/15,416ft) – Viconga (4,100m/13,448ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will hike up for about 1h to reach Portachuelo pass (4700m). From there, we will enjoy breathtaking views of Trapecio, Cuyoc and other mountains. Then we will start our descent to Viconga, having lunch along the way. It will take us about 4h, and you will have the opportunity to enjoy the thermal waters of Jatuncocha when we arrive. Overnight camping at 4100m.
Day 6: Viconga – Punta Cuyoc Pass (4,900m/16,072ft) – Elefantepampa (4,250m/13,940ft)
After breakfast, we will start climbing up to reach Punta Cuyoc pass (4900m), the highest pass of our circuit. From there, we will be able to see the peaks of Puscanturpa and Cuyoc, as well as Pumarinri glacier. Then we will start a 3h descent to Elefantepampa, where we will enjoy the sunset behind Cuyoc Mount. Overnight camping at 4250m.
Day 7: Elefante – San Antonio Pass (5,000m/16,400ft) – Huayllapa (3,400m/11,152ft)
After breakfast, we will hike for about 2h to reach San Antonio Pass (5000m). From there we will enjoy breathtaking views of the lakes Siula, Sarapo, and Jurau (which are featured in the book “Touching the void” written by the alpinist Joe Simpson; made into a movie in 2003). Then we will walk back on the same path for about 1h30, and then an extra 3h, descending the Huanacpatay valley, to reach the village of Huayllapa (3400m), where we will spend the night.
Day 8: Huayllapa – Huatiac – Tapush pass (4,800m/15,748ft) – Gashpapampa (4,600m/15,088ft)
After breakfast, we will hike up for about 4-5 hours to reach Tapush pass (4800m). We will have a nice lunch on the way. We will have a small 30min descent to see Susucocha lake. We will arrive around 3pm to Gashpapampa camp, where we will enjoy the sunset behind Diablo Mudo mount. Overnight camping at 4600m.
Day 9: Gaspapampa – Climbing DIABLO MUDO (5,325m/17,466ft) – Jahuacocha (4,100m/13,448ft)
After breakfast, we will start a 4h-climb up to the summit of Diablo Mudo mount (5325m), where we will take the time to enjoy breathtaking views. Then, we will head back down to Tapush Pass. It will take us about 3 hours, and we will enjoy more great views on the way, among others of Diablo Mudo, Yerupaja, and Shirishanca. After reaching the pass, we will continue to go down, and reach in about 2 hours Jahuacocha, our last camp. Overnight camping at 4100m.
Day 10: Trek Jahuacocha – Llamac – Huaraz
After breakfast, we will hike about 1 hour, and then start going up to Pampallamac Pass (4300m/14104ft) for about 1h30. There we will enjoy splendid views of peaks like Yerupaja, Ninashanca, Siula and Diablo Mudo. Then, we will hike down for 1h30 to reach Llamac, where our private transport will be waiting for us. After a 3h drive, we will arrive in Huaraz.Â
