Trekking Huayhuash Complete Circuit
A 12-day adventure around one of the most popular circuits of the Cordillera Blanca, taking you around the Huayhuash mountain range (composed of 20 peaks on its main and highest range, extending over 30km; and of lower peaks on its lower range, extending over 15km)

Day 1: Huaraz – Chiquian – Llamac (3,300m/10,824ft)
After breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel at 8am. We will drive south of Huaraz, passing by different district: Recuay, Ticapampa, Catac and Conococha (4100m/13448ft). We will reach Chiquian (3400m/11152ft) after 2h, and have a short break there (buy some extra-snacks/drinks if needed, etc). Then, we will drive another 2h30, down and then up to reach Pocpa. Along the way, we will enjoy great views over the mountains of Ninashanca, Jirishanca, and Yerupaja (among others). We will arrive at our first camp, Llamac, around 12pm. We will have lunch, set up the camp, and relax in the afternoon. Overnight camping at 3300m/10,824ft.
Day 2: Llamac – Pocpa – Cuartelhuain (4,100m/13,448ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will start a 4 to 5-hour ascent to the campsite of Cuartelhuain. Along this route we will be passing by Pocpa, where we will see a small mine. We will arrive at the camp around 1-2pm. From there, we will see the Ninashanca Mountain on the south side. Overnight camping at 4100m/13,448ft
Day 3: Cuartelhuain – Cacanan Pass (4,700m/15,416ft) – Mitucocha (4,200/13,776ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will hike to the Punta Cacanan pass (4700m/15416ft). From there we will enjoy great views of Chaupijanca and Cunchush. Then, we will go down for about 2h30 to reach the campsite of Mitucocha, where we will have breathtaking views over Nicashaca, Jirishinca and Rondoy mountains. Overnight camping at 4200m.
Day 4: Mitucocha – Carhuac Pass (4,500m/14,760ft) – Carhuacocha (4,250m/13,940ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will hike up for about 2-3 hours to reach the Carhuac pass (4500m/14760ft), where we will enjoy great views over the mountains of Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Siula, and Carnicero. Then, we will go down for about 1h30 and reach the beautiful lake Carhuacocha, where we will spend the night. Overnight camping at 4250m.
Day 5: Carhuacocha – Siula Pass (4,850m/15,908ft) – Huayhuash (4,300m/14,104ft)
After breakfast, at 8am, we will start hiking, first along Carhuacocha lake for about 30min, then we will start a 4h ascent to Siula pass (4850m/15908ft). From there, we will enjoy great views over: Jirishanca, Yerupaja, Siula and Carnicero. Then, we will head down for about 2h30 to the Huayhuash campsite. From there, we will have a breathtaking view over the west side of this impressive peak. Overnight camping at 4300m.
Day 6: Huayhuash – Portachuelo Pass (4,700m/15,416ft) – Viconga (4,100m/13,448ft)
Day 7: Viconga – Punta Cuyoc Pass (4,900m/16,072ft) – Elefantepampa (4,250m/13,940ft)
After breakfast, we will start hiking up to Cuyoc pass (4900m/16,072ft), the highest of the circuit. From there, we will have breathtaking views over Puscanturpa, Cuyoc and Pumarinri glaciers. Then, we will hike down for about 2h30 to reach Elefantepampa, where we will enjoy the sunset over Cuyoc Mount. Overnight camping at 4250m
Day 8: Elefantepampa – San Antonio Pass (4,900m/16,072ft) – Cutatambo (4,400m/14,432ft)
After breakfast, we will start a 2h ascent to San Antonio Pass (4900m/16,072ft). From there, we will enjoy breathtaking views over the lakes Siula, Sarapo, and Jurau (which are featured in the book "Touching the void" written by the alpinist Joe Simpson; made into a movie in 2003). Then we will head down for about 1h to the Sarapo Valley. We will set our camp in Cutatambo, have lunch and, after this, we will have the opportunity to visit some nice lakes at the base of the Siula Mountain, and then come back at the camp for a nice dinner. Overnight camping at 4400m/14432ft.
Day 9: Cutatambo – Resting day to visit Santa Rosa Lake and others
Today will be a resting day, where we will have the opportunity to visit some other beautiful lakes around the valley such as: Sarapo Lake, Jaurao Lake and Santa Rosa lake. We will camp in the same spot as the night before, in Cutatambo.
Day 10: Cutatambo – Huayllapa – Huatiac (4,400m/14,432ft)
After breakfast, we will hike down for about 4h30, along the Huayllapa river, to reach the charming village of Huayllapa. There we will find some small shops, where you could buy some extra snacks and drinks. Then, we will continue to hike until our next camp, Huatiac; arriving around 4pm. Overnight camping at 4,400m/14,432ft.
Day 11: Huatiac – Tapush Pass and Yaucha Pass (4,800m/15,744ft) – Jahuacocha (4,100m/13,448ft)
After breakfast, we will start a 3h ascent to reach Tapush Pass (4800m/15744ft). There we will enjoy great views over the Diablo Mudo mount. Then, we will continue to hike an extra 2h to reach Yaucha Pass (4800m/15744ft). There we will have views over the peaks of: Jirishanca, Ninashanca, and Yerupaja (among others). Then, we will hike down for about 2 hours to reach our next camp, Jahuacocha. Overnight camping at 4100m/13448ft.
Day 12: Jahuacocha – Pampallamac Pass (4,300m/14,104ft) - Llamac – Huaraz
After breakfast, we will hike on a flat section for 1h, then up for about 1h30 to reach Pampallamac Pass (4300m/14104ft). There we will enjoy great views over the mountains of: Yerupaja, Ninashanca, Siula and Diablo Mudo. Then, we will hike down for about 1h30 to reach Llamac, where our bus will be waiting for us. After about 3h, we will be back in Huaraz.
