Quilcayhuanca Trek climbing Ishinca and Tocllaraju
A 8-day adventure, passing by some of the most beautiful places in the Cordillera Blanca. The highlights of the journey will be the climb of two different summits: Ishinca (5,500/18,204ft), and Tocclaraju (6,035m/19,794ft), but also the ascent to the Huapi pass (5,000m/16,400ft) and the hike through the Cojup and Ishinca valleys.

Day 01: Huaraz – Quilcayhuanca entrance – Tullpacocha (4,250m/13,940ft)
After breakfast in the hotel, you will board our private transport around 7am. We will drive for about 2h, passing by small villages like Nueva Florida, Unchus, and Llupa, on our way to the Quilcayhuanca entrance.  There we will meet with our donkey drivers, who will accompany us up to Camp 1. We will start hiking from the entrance, enjoying nice views along the way, among others of the mountains of Andavite, Cayesh, Chinchey, Tullparajy, San Juan, Maparaju, and Pucaraju. We will stop for lunch at 12pm in a nice spot. Arriving at our first camp, we will have some hot drinks, get settle, and enjoy our first dinner together. Overnight camping at 4,250m.
Day 02: Tullpacocha – Huapi pass (5,000m/16,400ft) – Cojup valley (4,000m/13,120ft).Â
After breakfast, we will start a 3h30-ascent to Huapi Pass (5,000m/16,400ft). On the way we will have great views over the Cuchillacocha lake (4625m/15170ft). At the pass, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the peaks of Huapi, Pucaranra, Tullparaju, Andavite, Cayash, Maparaju, San Juan, Huantzan, Ranrapalca, and Ishinca (among others). We will then head down to the Cojup valley, to reach our second camp. We will have lunch on the way at noon. Overnight camping at 4000m.Â
Day 03: Q. Cojup – Moraine Camp of Ishinca south side (4,700m/15,416ft)
After breakfast we will start hiking at 8:00am. A four-hour hike will bring us until the Moraine Camp of ishinca. During the way we will have lunch while enjoying the splendid scenery. Complete panorama views of glaciated mountains, blue skies, and unique landscapes will be our companion during this high altitude picnic. Overnight 4700m.
Day 04: Moraine Camp – Ishinca summit (5,550m/18,204ft) – Ishinca Base Camp (4,350m/14,268ft)
We will have early breakfast at 3am. We will start a 2h ascent on the moraine. Then we will start climbing. In about 2h30, we should reach the summit of Ishinca, where we will enjoy breathtaking views of the peaks around, including (among others):  Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, Urus, Tocllaraju, Palcaraju, Tullparaju, San Juan, and Huantzan. Then we will head down on the north side of the Ishinca valley to reach our base camp. We will have lunch at the camp, and the afternoon to rest.  Overnight camping at 4,350m.
Day 05: Ishinca Base Camp – Rest day
This is a free day at the camp, where you could enjoy a late breakfast, take the time to rest, write, read, as you like. Overnight camping at 4,350m.Â
Day 06: Ishinca Base Camp – Camp 1 of Tocllaraju (5,200m/17,056ft)
We will have a late breakfast, and take the time to check our climbing gear. After lunch we will start a 2h ascent in the moraine. We will then climb an 1 hour over the snow to reach the camp. We will have the afternoon free to get some good rest for the next day. Overnight camping on the glacier, at 5,200m
Day 07: Camp 1 – Tocllaraju summit (6,035m/19,794ft) – Ishinca Base Camp
We will have an early breakfast at 3am. We will then climb for about 5h to reach the summit of Tocclaraju (6,035m/19,794ft). From there, we will enjoy breathtaking views of different peaks including (among others): Huascaran, Santa Cruz, and Ranrapalca. We will then head back down to Camp 1, to pick up our equipment, then continue to hike down to Base Camp, arriving around 4pm. Overnight at 4,350m.Â
Day 08: Base Camp – Ishinca valley – Huaraz
We will have breakfast at 8am, then start our hike back down to Pashpa, passing by the the Huascaran National Park control. It will take us about 3h30. In Pashpa, our private transfer will be waiting for us. We will have lunch on the way, and we should be back to Huaraz around 2pm.
