Climbing Nevado Vallunaraju

Nevado Vallunaraju (5,686m/18,654ft), meaning "the snowy peak of the dreams" in Quechua, belongs to the Chinchey massif of the Cordillera Blanca. From its summit can be seen one of the most incredible views of Huaraz. It is one of the most popular climb to acclimatize to the altitude.

Day 01: Huaraz – Llaca Valley - Moraine Camp of Valluna (4,760m/15,617ft)

After breakfast in the hotel, you will board our private transport at 8am, and drive east of Huaraz to Llaca Valley. From there we will hike about 2h30, enjoying breathtaking views of the mountains of San Juan, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, and Leon (among others). We will arrive at Moraine Camp around 1pm for lunch. We will get some rest in the afternoon and check our climbing gear for the next day. Overnight camping at 4760m.

Day 02: Moraine Camp – Vallunaraju summit (5,686m/18,650ft) – Moraine Camp

After breakfast, we will start a 25-minute hike over the rocks to get the glacier. We will get equip with our climbing gear and start our ascent to reach the summit of Vallunaraju. It will take us about 4 hours to climb up. At the top, we will enjoy breathtaking views of the mountains of Huascaran, Tocllaraju, Copa, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, and Huantzan (among others). We will then start our descent, and should get to the Moraine in about 2 hours time, and then walk back down to the camp. Overnight camping at 4760m.

Day 03: Moraine Camp – Come Back to Huaraz

We will leave after breakfast at 8am, and hike for about 2 hours to reach LLaca, where our transport will be waiting for us. Estimated arrival time in Huaraz 4pm.
